There could be several reasons why you might be seeing the black screen. It could be because of the following reasons:

Installation of a new driver,

A new extension,

Antivirus software

Some other new software

Upgrade to Windows 10, etc.

However, some users also complained that they haven’t done any of this and yet they are facing this issue. This indicates that it isn’t really the issue of Firefox. However, Firefox users mostly come across this problem.

Fix Firefox Black Screen Problem

You can always drop using the Firefox and switch to another. But when you have been using one browser for a long time, you would prefer to stick to it. You have invested a lot of time and effort in customizing it with add-ons, extensions and then you have set the favorites and bookmarks as well. And that’s why we are giving you some methods for dealing with this issue.

Scan Your Computer For Viruses

Virus attacks are one common reason for most system and application errors. Hence, the first thing you must do is to scan your system and all the connected devices for virus and malware. You can use Windows Defender or install a good third-party antivirus software for scanning your system for virus and removing them. After the scan is complete, fix the issues and restart your system.

Uninstall Recent Software

If you have recently installed a software and it is only after that you have started experiencing the problem, you must uninstall that new software.

  • Go to the Control Panel,
  • Select Uninstall A Program,
  • Select the software you have recently installed,
  • Click on uninstall.

You will see a pop-up window with the software uninstaller. Wait for the uninstall to be finished. Restart your system after that and launch the Browser. It should work fine now.

Roll Back The Driver Update

Some users have also complained that they have been experiencing the issue right after updating the Graphics Driver. In that case, you will need to roll back the update.

  • Do a Windows search for device manager and open it.
  • Locate your Graphics driver and open it.
  • In the driver tab of the pop-up window, you will find the option of rolling back the update.
  • Select it and confirm your action.
  • After the update is rolled back, click Apply and Ok.
  • Exit the device manager.

You should be able to run Firefox smoothly now.

Disable Hardware Acceleration Within Firefox

For some people, this happens for a short time and that too sometimes. In this case, people have the advantage of using the solutions that can only be done from within the browser. Disabling hardware acceleration is one among those solutions that are done from within the browser and is known to fix this issue often.

Hardware acceleration is meant for improving the performance of your browser. This option enables your hardware to perform the functions that your software is unable to perform efficiently. But it also clashes with some drivers and graphics processors at times. So, this could be the reason why the Firefox screen is turning black. To disable Hardware Acceleration,

  • Click the settings icon in the Firefox browser and select the Options tab,
  • Click the General folder,
  • Navigate to the Performance folder,
  • Uncheck the Hardware Acceleration option,
  • Make sure the default settings is checked.

This should fix the issue.

Start Firefox In Safe Mode

You can hold down the shift key while you are starting the browser for launching it in the safe mode or,

Click the settings icon in the Firefox browser,

Select help or the question mark icon,

Click the Restart with Add-ons Disabled option,

Choose Restart on the popup screen,

Click the Start in Safe Mode in the Safe Mode prompt.

These solutions should be able to fix Firefox blank screen issues for you.
