Method 2 – Uninstall Malicious Programs 

Some adware can download and install other dangerous malware in your system. Follow these simple steps to permanently remove it from your system. 

  1. Click on the Start button and type ‘programs’ in the search bar. 
  2. Click on Programs and Features. Here, you will see all the installed software on your computer. 
  3. Find the malicious program, highlight it and click on Uninstall to remove it from your system. 

Method 3 – Change Homepage Back to Default 

Some Chrome Pop-up Viruses change the default settings of Google Chrome. This is why you may get redirected to other questionable search engines.

Go through the following steps to revert these changes. 

  1. Click on the three dots in the top-right of your screen. Click on Settings and navigate down the page. 
  2. Under the On Startup section, you will see an option for “Open a Specific Page”. Choose this option and go to ‘Set pages’. 
  3. Delete the malicious websites from the drop-down menu. Go to ‘Add a new page’ and enter google.com as default. 

Method 4 – Change New Tab Settings  

Normally, a new tab displays a set of pages you’ve recently visited. Chrome Pop-up Virus can change this setting to open a random website. 

You can revert this setting by following the instructions below. 

  1. Open Chrome’s menu by clicking on the three dots located on the top right. Go to Settings. 
  2. You’ll see an option to ‘Show Home Button’ under the Appearance section. 
  3. Delete the mentioned website and choose the New Tab Page option. 

Method 5 – Turn on Pop-up Blocker 

Annoying Pop-ups can be automatically blocked in Google Chrome. If you’re suffering from Chrome Pop-up Virus then this option must’ve been turned off. 

You can turn it back on by following these steps. 

  1. Open Chrome’s settings page by clicking on the three dots. 
  2. Click on Settings and go to the Advanced Settings. Choose Site Settings from this list. 
  3. An option called Pop-ups and Redirects will be located there. 
  4. Just click on the slider beside it to turn it on. 

Method 6 – Block Unwanted Notifications

Chrome Pop-up Virus can also display ads in the form of notifications. These notifications are shown in the bottom-right of the screen. 

You can disable unwanted notifications by following these instructions. 

  1. Click on the three dots to open Chrome’s menu. Click on Settings and go down the page. 
  2. You will see a text link called Advanced Settings. Click on it and navigate to Privacy and Security.  
  3. Now, click on Content Settings and head over to Notifications. 
  4. Find the harmful websites and remove them by clicking on its right side. 

Method 7 – Remove Malware Extensions 

Adware can install itself in Google Chrome in the form of extensions. While some extensions are helpful, they are not. 

You can remove such malicious extensions by going through the following steps. 

  1. Open Chrome’s menu by clicking on the three dots. Select More Tools from the list of options. 
  2. Click on Extensions and find the list of malicious extensions.  
  3. Simply click on them and select Remove. 

Method 8 – Reset Chrome Settings 

This is an optional method that you can try. It will erase all the cookies, site data, and browsing history. Any theme or extension will be automatically removed. You will also be logged out of your favorite website. 

You can follow the steps mentioned below to reset your Chrome to its default settings. 

  1. Open Chrome’s menu by clicking on the three vertical dots. Go to Settings and then head over to Advanced Settings.  
  2. Scroll further down until you reach the end of the page. Here, you’ll see an option called Reset. Click on this option. 
  3. You’ll see a message prompt asking for confirmation. Just click on Reset once again. 


Your browser must now be free from the Chrome Pop-up Virus. You can visit the Chrome Web Store and install an AdBlock extension to prevent advertisement displays. Make sure that you update Google Chrome to its latest version. In addition, updating your antivirus software should always be a priority.
