How To Rotate A Video In Windows Media Player [Advanced Guide]

A video play in wrong orientation can happen particularly when that is made on a smartphone. A video that is recorded in Portrait mode, if you try to view that in Landscape mode, then you won’t be able to view it. 

Some of the players like Media Player Classic and VLC comes along with the feature to rotate a video, but Windows Media Player doesn’t have that facility. However, there are several hacks to rotate a video.

For Windows OS: 

You can rotate a video on a Windows computer by using VLC Media Player. VLC is a free and open-source media player that has in-built codec support for every video format. You can follow the below steps to rotate a video in VLC and prepare that for Windows Media Player. 

How to Rotate a video in the Windows Media Player Using VLC? 

• First and foremost, launch the VLC media player and navigate to the Media tab. Choose the ‘Open File’ option from the list. 
• Afterward, click on Tools and then tap on the ‘Effects and Filters’ option. 
• Once it opens the ‘Adjustments and Effects’ window, go to the ‘Video Effects’ tab and then click on the ‘Geometry’ tab. 
• Next, check the Transform box and select your preferred option from the drop-down menu. After selecting this, the video will rotates automatically. 
• Now, click on the Save button and then tap on the Close button to go back to the main VLC interface. 

After doing this, you have to save the rotated video in VLC. To do this, perform the steps as follows: 

1. Click on the Tools and then tap on the ‘Preferences’ option. Next, tap on the All button from the left-bottom corner of the Preferences window. 
2. Go to the Stream Output section from the left pane of the screen. Then, navigate to the ‘Sout stream’ tab and click on the ‘Transcode’ option. 
3. Check the ‘Rotate video filter’ box from the right pane of the screen. Tap on the Save button. 
4. Now, go to the Media tab once again and then choose the ‘Convert/Save’ option from the list. 
5. Tap on the Add button from the Open Media window and then select the file that you want to rotate. Click on the ‘Convert/Save’ button. 
6. Once it opens the Convert window, go to the Destination section and click on the Browse button. Then, select the existing file to overwrite or, you can type the file name. 
7. Lastly, tap on the Start button to begin the converting process and save the file.  

Now, the video is rotated to your preferred mode as expected. 

For macOS: 

If you are a Mac user, then you can rotate a video by following the steps mentioned below: 

1. First and foremost, open Spotlight (magnifying glass-shaped icon). Then, type “quicktime” in the search bar. It will start to search for the QuickTime app. 
2. Click twice on the ‘QuickTime’ option to open it. Then, navigate to the File tab and choose the ‘Open File…’ option from the drop-down menu. 
3. Afterward, choose the video that you wish to rotate. To do this, go to the folder where the video is stored. Then, tap on the appropriate folder from the left pane of the screen. 
4. Now, tap on the Open button from the lower-right pane of the window. It will open the selected video in the QuickTime player. 
5. Next, navigate to the Edit tab. Then, tap on the Rotate button. Choose the specific option that you wish to apply to the video. 

After performing the above steps, save that by following the steps given below: 

• Go to the File tab once again. 
• Choose the ‘Export’ option from the list. 
• Next, choose the quality. 
• Type a name and choose the location where you want to save the video. 
• Lastly, tap on the Save button to complete the process.

On iPhone: 

If you want to rotate a video on your iPhone device, then you can perform the steps provided below: 

Step 1: 

Open the App Store and type “rotate & flip video” in the search bar. Tap on the Search icon. Afterward, tap on the GET button from the next screen. 

Now, provide the Touch ID or Apple ID email address. Tap on the Install button and wait for a few seconds until the installation process completes. 

Step 2: 

Close the App Store and then tap on the ‘Rotate & Flip Video’ icon to open it. After that, tap on the Video Camera icon from the middle of the screen. It will open a pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen. 

Step 3: 

Tap on the Video option from the pop-up menu. Now, you will be prompted to tap on the OK button. As a result, it will allow the app to access the videos of the device. 

Afterward, you have to choose a video album. To do this, tap on the album where the video is stored. If you are not sure what to choose, tap on the ‘Camera Roll’ option. 

Step 4: 

Now, choose the video that you want to edit and tap on the Select button from the bottom-right corner of the screen. It will open the selected video on the main page of the app. Next, tap on the ‘90’ option until the video reaches the orientation that you prefer.

After that, tap on the Save button from the bottom of the screen. It will save the rotated video on the Camera Roll of the iPhone.

On Android: 

To rotate a video on your Android device, you can perform the steps as follows: 

Step 1: 

First of all, open the Google Play Store and type “rotate video fx” in the search bar. Choose ‘Rotate Video FX’ from the search results. Tap on the INSTALL button followed by the ACCEPT button.

Step 2: 

Tap on the ‘Rotate Video FX’ icon to open it. After that, tap on the ‘START ROTATE’ option from the right pane of the screen. Next, tap on the ‘Choose movie’ option when you will be asked. It will open the Camera Rool of the device. 

Step 3: 

Now, choose the video that you wish to rotate. Exit from the advertisement if needed. Afterward, tap on the Close or ‘X’ before proceeding. 

Next, tap on the arrow, from the left bottom pane of the screen, to rotate the selected video 90 degrees right or left. Or, if you prefer you can also rotate the video to 180 degrees. To do that, tap on the arrow twice. 

Step 4: 

Thereafter, tap o the START button from the bottom of the screen. Now, choose the conversion speed. Tap on the ‘Fast method’ method to flip the video quickly. Or, you can tap on the ‘Normal method’ option. It will confirm that the video will open in all supported media player. 

Step 5: 

Now, wait for a few seconds until the converting process is completed. Once you see that the video is starting to play, it indicates that it has been rotated and stored in the camera roll of the device.
