Things To Keep In Mind to Connect PS4 Controller

It is rather complicated to connect a PS4 controller to your Windows 10 computer, than connecting the Windows to an Xbox One controller. Remember, you can connect PS4 controller to your PC either on Steam, or via Bluetooth as well. The latter usually works well for all games and programs.

Once you connect the PS4 controller to your computer, Windows 10 will automatically install a new device Wireless Controller. However, by default, the PS4 controller cannot be mapped directly by Windows 10. Therefore, you need to carry out some additional configurations that are discussed below.

Brilliant Ways For Connecting PS4 Controller To Windows 10

Apply any of the given two methods as per your preference and start enjoying your favorite games:

As mentioned earlier, Windows 10 is incapable of mapping the PS4 controller directly. Thankfully, Steam can make up for what the Windows lacks.

  • To begin with, open Steam and click on the controller icon present in the upper right corner. This will open the Steam Big Picture interface.
  • Now, from here, go to the Settings section. You will find the cogwheel shaped settings icon on the upper right part of the screen.
  • Click on the Controller Settings option and in the next window that shows up, choose from several options, most of which are for configuring a specific controller.
  • All you need to do is check the PS4 Configuration Support box. Once you do this, Steam will automatically recognize your PS4 controller and have it mapped instantly.
  • After that, you need to register your PS4 controller on your account following which, you will be able to customize the controller as per your liking. For example, you can give it a specific name or choose the color and brightness, etc. Finally, click on Send and start playing your favorite games without any more delay.

Now, the above process is explicitly meant for the Steam platform and might not work for all games and programs. Therefore, you can try out the next alternative for connecting the PS4 controller to your Windows 10 PC.

For paring the PS4 controller to your Windows 10 PC, you need to force the controller into the pairing mode. For doing that, you need to first turn off the controller. This can be quickly done by just plugging the controller into the PS4 followed by holding down the PS button until a menu appears. From the menu, select the “Turn Off Controller” option. Now, press and hold down the Share button and simultaneously, press the PlayStation button as well until the light bar flashes. This will effectively switch the PS4 into pairing mode, and you can now easily connect the controller to your Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth.

Some other methods include the use of third-party tools like DS4Windows. However, those are usually filled with adware that is highly annoying during any gaming session. Therefore, we suggest you try these relatively easier and safer methods for connecting your PS4 controller to Windows 10.
