100% Disk Usage Windows 10 is one of the most common errors that you can face while using Windows 10. Method 1: Disable Windows Search

You can troubleshoot this error by either disabling the Windows search, temporarily or permanently.

In Case Of Disable It Permanently

If you want to disable Windows search permanently then try to follow the instructions given below.

  1. Press Windows + R to launch Run.
  2. In that box type ” services.msc” and hit Enter to continue.
  3. Services panel will open. In that box, find Windows Search option, double-click it to reach in the properties Window.
  4. Now, disable Startup type and click on the Apply and OK to save changes.
  5. After this process, try to check the disc space again from the task manager. If it is no longer 100%, it means you have fixed this error.

In Case Of Temporary Disable

If you want to disable Windows search temporarily then try to focus on the steps mentioned below.

  1. Go to the Run box by pressing Windows + R and  open Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Click Yes at the User Account Control window prompt.
  3. A  black window will then display. This is the command prompt window. In this window, type net.exe stop “Windows search”.
  4. After that hit Enter to continue.
  5. Now check the disc space. If the error persists then try to focus on the next method.

Method 2: Disable SuperFetch

SuperFetch helps you to decrease the boot time but in some cases, you can encounter this error due to an internal glitch of this feature. On that note, try to disable it using the following method.

  1. On your keyboard, Press Windows and X simultaneously and choose Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Click Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  3. Now when in the command prompt window, type in ‘net.exe’ to stop SuperFetch and hit Enter to continue.
  4. After this process, wait for some time and check for the disc space. If the error persists then try to follow the next method given below.

Method 3: Perform A Disc Check

You can also troubleshoot this error by performing a disc check. To perform so, try to follow the steps mentioned below.

  1. Open the command prompt by pressing Windows + X and choosing command prompt (Admin).
  2. Click Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  3. Now type in ‘chkdsk.exe/f/r’ and hit Enter to continue.
  4. Now, type Y to confirm the disc check. After that close all application and restart your device.
  5. Now, check the disc usage from the task manager.

If it becomes less then 100% then you are successful. Otherwise, try to follow the next method given below.

Method 4: Reset Virtual Memory

As an alternative method, you can also reset virtual memory to troubleshoot this error. To perform so, go through with the steps mentioned below.

  1. Press Windows + Pause/ Break to open system settings. After that choose, Advanced System Settings on the panel.
  2. Go to the Advanced tab, then click Settings.
  3. Go to the Advanced tab again, and choose Change… in the Virtual memory section.
  4. After that check, you have made the checkbox against Automatically manage paging file size for all drives unchecked.
  5. Now, select Windows drive and enter an initial size or maximum size for virtual memory.
  6. After entering virtual memory values, click on the set option. After that click on OK to continue.
  7. Now, clear all temp files of your computer. In that case, press Windows + R to launch the Run box and in the box type ‘temp’ and hit Enter to continue. Now, you can see the Windows Explorer with the Temp folder.
  8. Now, select all Temp files from that folder and delete them.

After that, check the disc space of your system, if the error persists then try some other methods given below.

Method 5: Disable Antivirus

If you are getting this error for the installed Antivirus, then try to disable it to bypass the issue. On that note, go to the developer’s website to get the information to perform the disabling process.

After disabling the Antivirus, now check the disc space. If it doesn’t become lower than 100% then try to focus on the next method.

Method 6: Change Google Chrome And Skype Settings

You can also overcome this issue by changing Google Chrome and Skype settings. In that case, try to follow the steps mentioned below.

  1. In Google Chrome, click the three-dot icon at the top right corner and from that part choose Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Advanced.
  3. In the Privacy and Security category, make sure  Use a prediction service to load pages more quickly is turned off.
  4. Make sure that you have closed the skype Window.
  5. In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\.
  6. Go to the Security tab and select Edit.
  7. Click ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES and tick the Allow check box for Write. Then click Apply, then OK to save your change.
  8. Now, check the disc space usage. If the error persists then try to update device drivers.

Method 7: Update Device Driver

  1. At first, go to the Star option and invoke to the search option.’
  2. In search option type ” Update Device Drivers”. You can see search results, from that option, choose the right one and click ok to continue.
  3. After completing the update process, try to check the disc space. If the error persists then try some other method.

Method 8: Fix StorAHCI.sys Driver

  1. Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and choose device manager.
  2. Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers category, and double-click the AHCI controller.
  3. Go to the Driver tab and click Driver details. If you can see storahci.sys, it means you are running the inbox AHCI driver.
  4. Go to the details tab and From the drop-down menu select Device Instance Path.
  5. Type “regedit” in the search box and hit Enter on your keyboard.
  6. You can see registry editor Window.
  7. Now, go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\ <AHCIController>\<Random Number>\Device Parameters\InterruptManagement\MessageSignaledInterruptProperties
  8. Double click the MSISupported key and change the value to 0
  9. After this whole process done, check the disc space. This time you will be surely able to overcome this issue.
