4 Tips to Control Wsappx High CPU Usage

Wsappx is a legitimate Microsoft Windows process that you can find on Windows 8 and 10 computers. If you open Task Manager, then you will find Wsappx running under the Processes tab.

This process has an association with Windows Universal Apps and Windows Store. Therefore, as you turn on your PC, Wsappx starts running in the background. If you double-click on Wsappx, then you will find two additional sub-processes: AppXSVC and ClipSVC. 

When you install, uninstall, or update Microsoft Store apps, Wsappx consumes a significant percentage of CPU. Consumption of CPU is normal for this Microsoft Windows process. But, it becomes a great concern when Wsappx causes higher than normal CPU usage. 

Methods to Control Wsappx High CPU Usage 

Hopefully, you have perceived a clear idea of what is Wsappx. Now, we need to identify the potential problems related to the Wsappx high CPU. Therefore, let us continue with the tricks to control Wsappx high disk usage

Method 1: Run Windows Store App Troubleshooter

You will find a number of built-in troubleshooters on a Windows PC. These troubleshooters are supposed to resolve various computer problems. 

Troubleshooters might not be the key solution to all problems. But, they prove to be useful for problems arising from the Operating Systems or connected devices. 

  1. Go to the Start menu and open the Settings app. 
  2. Type ‘troubleshoot’ in the search bar of the Settings window and select ‘Troubleshoot’ from the displayed result. 
  3. Navigate to the section ‘Find and fix other problems’ and select ‘Windows Store Apps.’
  4. Click the ‘Run the Troubleshooter’ button and wait for the troubleshooter to identify the problem. 
  5. If the troubleshooter displays any problem, then select that to fix it then and there only. 

Method 2: Use Registry Editor to Disable Windows Store

Windows Registry stores the databases of user preferences, software programs, hardware devices, and Operating System configurations, and more. You need Registry Editor to access and edit the components of your Windows Registry. 

  1. To use this method, you need to open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key and ‘R’ simultaneously. 
  2. Type ‘regedit’ in the Run dialog box and click ‘OK’ to access the Registry Editor window. 
  3. Copy the link: ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore’ and paste it into the upper bar of the Registry Editor. 
  4. If you can’t find the Windows key, then right-click on the Microsoft key and select ‘New’ from the drop-down menu. 
  5. Rename the key as ‘WindowsStore’ and press the ‘Enter’ key. 
  6. Right-click on the newly created Windows Store key, tap ‘New’ and select ‘DWORD (32-bit) Value’ from the context menu. 
  7. Double-click on “RemoveWindowsStore” DWORD and choose the value as 1. 
  8. Click ‘OK’ to save the changes and exit the Registry Editor window. 
  9. Restart the system and check the CPU usage. 

Method 3: Use Local Group Policy Editor

Local Group Policy Editor is a Microsoft Management Console to manage computer and user configuration settings. Now, Local Group Policy Editor is available in Windows Pro, Enterprise and Education editions. 

If your Computer Operating System supports this feature, then do as stated below. 

  1. Press the Windows key and ‘R’ at the same time to open the Run application. 
  2. Type ‘gpedit.msc’ into the search box of the Run application and click ‘OK’ to launch the Local Group Policy Editor. 
  3. Go to ‘Computer Configuration’ and click ‘Administrative Templates.’
  4. Tap ‘Windows components’ and select ‘Store’ from the submenu. 
  5. Scroll down the settings available on the Store folder and double-click on ‘Turn off the Store application.’
  6. Select the ‘Enabled’ checkbox and tap the ‘Save’ button to disable the Windows Store. 

Use your PC to check the CPU usage. If you can’t find any changes, then repeat the aforesaid steps and double-click on the ‘Turn off the Store application” setting. Then tap the ‘Disabled’ button to undo the changes you have made before. 

Note: You can’t install or update any third-party apps as long the Windows Store is disabled on your PC. 

Method 4: Scan Your PC for Malicious Programs

If your computer has any security software, then use it to scan the system for viruses or malware. If this software finds any malicious program, then it will automatically remove that from your PC. 

Whereas, if you don’t have a security program, then use Windows Defender, the built-in security tool of your PC.

  1. To use Windows Defender, type ‘virus’ in the search box and press ‘Enter’. 
  2. Click the‘ Virus and threat protection’ option on the search result. 
  3. As the Virus and threat protection window opens, choose ‘Advanced Scan’ and select the ‘Full Scan’ option. 
  4. Then, tap the ‘Scan Now’ button to start scanning the system for malicious programs. 
  5. If Windows Defender displays any virus, then tap the ‘Delete’ button to remove them from your computer.
