Stated below are the basic tricks that can help you to make the device respond to any voice command you give. The tricks are: 

  • If you are not using the original power adapter, then the adapter might fail to provide sufficient power to the device. So, make sure that you are using the original power adapter that comes with your Echo smart speaker. 
  • Sometimes, Alexa not responding to voice may also occur if you place the Echo speaker too far or too near to the Alexa. So, always try to keep the speaker at least 3 feet away from the Alexa. 
  • Press the Action button located at the top of the Echo device and check if the device starts to respond to the command you give. 
  • Make sure that you are giving a natural as well as a clear voice command to the Alexa. Moreover, if there are any loud noises around the device while communicating with Alexa, then you might also come across this problem. 
  • Lastly, ensure that the Echo speaker is placed at a distance from the TV, radio, microwave, and other devices with vocal outputs.

Fix 1: Check the Microphone Button

If your Alexa device is in working state, but still it is not responding to your voice commands, then you need to check whether the microphone button is turned On. The microphone button is located at the top of the device with a MIC symbol. 

So, press the button and give a voice command to Alexa. You can give simple commands like ‘what is today’s weather?’. If it still does not respond, you can press the MIC button once again. If it doesn’t have any effect, you can try the other ways described below. 

Fix 2: Perform a Hard Reset of the Echo Device

According to some Echo users, they have solved this issue by performing a hard reset of the Echo speaker. To do this, you can perform the steps as follows: 

  • First, take a small paperclip and insert it in the Reset hole located at the base of the speaker. 
  • Hold the paperclip for a few seconds until you will see the Echo Blue light changes its colour to orange. 
  • Now, turn the device off. Wait for a few seconds and then turn it On once again. It will take the device back to its default settings. 
  • Next, set up the Amazon Echo show by using the Alexa application. 

After trying this solution, if you see that the Echo speaker is still not responding on your voice command, then you can restart the Echo to get rid of this problem. 

Fix 3: Restart Amazon Echo

To troubleshoot the unresponsive Echo issue, you can restart the Amazon Echo Show. To do this, first, test whether the Echo is listening to your voice command or not. 

To do this, check if the blue LED indicator located at the top of the Echo speaker is spinning or not. If it is, then it indicates that the Alexa can listen but fails to respond. 

So, disconnect the device from the power supply and then detach the other end of the power cable from the Echo device. Let the device remain disconnected for the next 40 seconds. 

Now, re-plug the device to the power supply. Once the device is connected to the Wi-Fi, it will start working automatically. Wait for the next 2 minutes. After that, you will be able to use the Echo device as expected.
