D-Link Router Setup: A Comprehensive Guide

D-Link is a world-class router brand which is known for its high-end features. The process to set it up is nearly similar to any other brands of the routers, but with a little difference. How to Setup D-Link Router?

Unbox and Connect the Router with the Computer and Modem

The first thing you need to do is unbox the router. After that, take the ethernet cables and with the help of one ethernet cable, assemble the modem to the router. Next, with the other ethernet cable connect the router to the PC.

Note: Connect the modem with the WAN port of the router, which is placed just beside the power port of the router’s body and also different in color compared to the other four ports. Join the other ethernet cable to any of the four ports of the router and the other end to the PC’s ethernet port.

Connect D-Link Router to Power Source and Turn On the Device

After connecting both the router, modem, and computer take the power cable and connect the router with the power supply via this power cable. After that, turn on all the devices (router, modem, and computer).

Now, check the lights from the router’s front face. Both the light should be lit. This will confirm that the connection has built properly. Check the series followed by the lights:

  • Power
  • WAN
  • LAN

Login to the D-Link Account

Now, launch a web browser in the system and at the address bar, type the IP address of the router. To do this, at first, you need to know the router’s IP address. After knowing it (router’s IP address), and placing it on the address bar of the web browser, press the Enter key. Then, you navigate to the login page of the D-Link router. Here, you need to fill up the login information of the router. In the place of the Username, type “admin” and leave the Password space blank, then proceed by clicking on the ‘Log in’ button.

How to Know the IP Address of the D-Link Router?

To begin with, at first, press the Windows button, this will activate the Search bar. Then, on this Search bar type ‘cmd’. Next, press the Enter key or click on the top-most search result (cmd or Command Prompt), this will open the Command Prompt window. After that, on this Command Prompt window, type ‘ipconfig’ and tap the Enter button. Now, you will see that a few messages get loaded on this Command Prompt window. From these messages, navigate to the Default Gateway. The number which is present along with the dots beside the Default Gateway is the IP address of your D-Link router. Here, from this pop-up window, click on the “Setup Wizard” button. And in case, if you do not get the “Setup Wizard” button, then go to the upper section of this window. After that, from the available tabs, click on “Setup”, then hit on the “Setup Wizard” button which you will get under the Internet Connection Wizard section.

Step 1: Set the Password

Now, you must be in the “Setup Your Password” page. Here, you will see that both the “Password” and “Verify Password” spaces are blank. On these blank spaces, it is better to fill up with a password, to keep the network connection secure.  After entering the same password in both these spaces, click on Next, to continue. Remember that the password is cache sensitive. So, remember the password and note down, with the same format.

Step 2: Select the Time Zone

Next, you go to the “Select Your Time Zone” page. Here, you need to set the option, according to your current location by dropping down the menu list. After selecting the appropriate time zone, click on Next.

Step 3: Configure the Internet Connection

After that, on the “Configure Your Internet Connection” page, select the connection type you are using. In general, most of the time the connection use the home network is DHCP Connection. Then, click on Next and proceed with these further steps.
