  2. From there, click on ‘Microsoft’ and then select ‘Windows’. Thereafter, select the ‘Application Experience’ option. Once you get in there, turn off all the three tasks that you see.
  3. After this, navigate to the following path: Ask Scheduler Library> Microsoft> Windows> Customer Experience Improvement Program.

Now, disable all the three tasks that you find inside that folder.

Give the Device A Clean Boot

When you clean boot your device it starts with only a minimum basic set of drivers and programs. Here’s how you can clean boot your device:

  1. At first, click on the Start option. Now, type ‘msconfig’ in the search area and press the Enter button.
  2. Now, get into the ‘System Configuration’ and select the ‘Services’ tab. 
  3. Locate the ‘Hide all Microsoft services’ option and tap on the checkbox next to it. 
  4. Thereafter, click on the ‘Disable all’ option. After this, click on the ‘Startup’ tab and then choose the ‘Open Task Manager’ option.
  5. Click on each of the startup items to select them. Thereafter, click on ‘Disable’ and then close the Task Manager. 

Finally, restart the computer and check if the CompatTelRunner.exe file still appears in your system. 

Use the Registry Editor

Another way to disable the system file in question is to make some changes in the Registry Editor. Follow these instructions to modify the Registry Editor:

  1. Press the ‘Windows’ key and the ‘R’ key to launch the Run dialog box. Now, you have to type ‘regedit’ and press the Enter button. This will open the Registry Editor.
  2. Once you get into the Registry Editor go to this particular command: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TelemetryController
  3. Now, rename the entry from ‘TelemetryController’ to ‘TelemetryControllerX’. 

Finally, give your system a restart. 

Disable CompatTelRunner.exe Using Group Policy Editor

You can also uninstall the CompatTelRunner.exe on Windows 10 with the help of the Group Policy Editor. This is what you need to do:

  1. Launch the Run dialog box by pressing the ‘Windows’ key and the ‘R’ key. Thereby, type ‘gpedit.msc’ in the dialog box and press OK. 
  2. Now, follow this pathway:  

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds

  1. Locate the ‘Allow Telemetry’ option and double-click on it. Thereafter, click on the ‘Disable’ option. 
  2. Finally, click on ‘Apply’ and OK to save the changes. 

With these solutions, you can successfully delete the CompatTelRunner.exe file. However, you must not forget that since it is a system file, it’ll be restored on your device again.
